FEMA Funds Relocation Of Displaced Residents

Applicants displaced from their primary residence in a disaster-declared area as a result of Katrina are eligible for up to $4,000 in relocation expenses incurred between August 29, 2005 and August 31, 2008. The deadline is August 31, 2008.
Visit the FEMA website for a full list of eligibility requirements or call 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). To prevent duplication of benefits, an applicant is only eligible to receive relocation assistance under either Hurricane Katrina (DR-1603-LA) or Hurricane Rita (DR-1607-LA), not both. more
LFRC Trailer Transition HEF Program

Residents in select FEMA trailer communities that meet certain eligibility requirements and that are well-positioned to sustain a household once leaving the trailer community can receive up to $1,500 in assistance for rental deposits and payments; utility deposits; and the purchase of basic furniture and appliances such as a bed, stove, washer, dryer and refrigerator.

St. Anna's Mission to Musicians - Free Services Available

Each Wednesday night, St. Anna's Community Center offers free community resources to all musicians.
Free services include health and medical advice, acupuncture, massage, housing advocacy, legal advice, assistance replacing instruments, and computer assistance.

United Way IDA Program: Matching Savings Account for a Home or Vehicle Purchase, Business Assistance, Education Assistance
IDAs (Individual Development Accounts) are savings accounts that give low income individuals and families the opportunity save and build assets.
Qualified individuals who open an IDA will receive matching funds towards a specified goal.

St. Bernard Project

The St. Bernard Project offers rebuilding assistance to the elderly (over 62), disabled, or those who have school-age children who have a house in St. Bernard.
Services are dependent on available volunteers. Qualified residents who wish to apply for assistance can stop by the St. Bernard Project office at 8324 Parc Place in Chalmette or call Janie Strachan, Client Liaison, at 504-277-6831.

Louisiana Food Banks and Food Bank Distribution

The Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans sponsors a food banks in New Orleans three times a week in the Upper Ninth Ward.
The program is available to low income residents that have a valid Louisiana state I.D. The distribution center gives boxes of food once a month to eligible residents according to size of the family. The free food packages include produce, dried foods, and meats.
