Organizations Helping to Rebuild Houses
Several organizations are helping homeowners who have limited or depleted rebuilding monies to rehabilitate their homes with the help of volunteer labor and free construction materials. The criteria common to all is that the residents were homeowners of their property prior to Hurricane(s) Katrina or Rita. Check back often for more organizations offering assistance.

Lowernine.org is helping residents of the Lower Ninth Ward rebuild their homes.
There is a waiting list but any Lower Nine resident can fill out a short, one-page application. Rebuild projects are prioritized as follows: 1)elderly with children in the home; 2) families with children; 3) elderly without children in the home; 4) everybody else.

Rebuilding Assistance - Operation Helping Hands

Operation Helping Hands brings volunteers from across the country together to help rebuild New Orleans by rebuilding homes of elderly, disabled or uninsured homeowners.

SAFER

SAFER (Student Advocacy for Equitable Recovery), through their Family Match rebuilding program, matches the time and skills of college students to the needs of families who lost their homes due to Hurricane Katrina.
SAFER offers assistance with mold remediation, gutting, and rebuilding, as well as a program that helps residents find affordable houses to purchase. Visit the website or call 504.314.7233.

Louisiana United Methodist Disaster Recovery Ministry

The Ministry is providing case management as well as rebuilding assistance to residents who were living in the hurricane affected regions prior to disaster.

PNOLA - The Phoenix of New Orleans (Tulane/Gravier Neighborhood)

The Phoenix of New Orleans is offering case management services and rebuilding assistance to homeowners in the lower Mid-City area.
It is also advocating on behalf of homeowners in the area currently slated for the creation of the new VA hospital to ensure community voice and input and job creation for local residents. For more information visit the website or call (504) 342-4399.

St. Bernard Project

The St. Bernard Project offers rebuilding assistance to the elderly (over 62), disabled, or those who have school-age children who have a house in St. Bernard.
Services are dependent on available volunteers. Qualified residents who wish to apply for assistance can stop by the St. Bernard Project office at 8324 Parc Place in Chalmette or call Janie Strachan, Client Liaison, at 504-277-6831.

World Hope International and Family of Faith Community Church are working together to assist homeowners in rebuilding their uninsured, flooded homes.
