Louisiana Food Banks and Food Bank Distribution

The Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans sponsors a food banks in New Orleans three times a week in the Upper Ninth Ward.
The program is available to low income residents that have a valid Louisiana state I.D. The distribution center gives boxes of food once a month to eligible residents according to size of the family. The free food packages include produce, dried foods, and meats.

HANO Voucher Program - Become a Homeowner
HANO offers a program in which Section 8 vouchers can be used to purchase a home.
Participants must become financially fit, be a first-time homeowner, be employed for at least a year, satisfactorily complete HANO's pre-assistance homeownership and housing counseling program, attend post-purchase counseling and monthly homebuyer club meetings, and earn an annual salary of at least $10,300. ACORN won a class action litigation settlement relating to the mortgage lending practices of Household Finance Corporation and Beneficial Corporation which created provisions for a Foreclosure Assistance Program (FAP).
Under this program, borrowers who are behind on their loans because they cannot afford the payments could be eligible to have their interest rates reduced enough for their loans to become affordable again.
If you have suffered a verifiable loss of income or a verifiable increase in expenses since the time you took out your loan (such as loss of employment, temporary or permanent disability, reduction in monthly pay, increase in mortgage interest rate, child care, taxes or medical expenses), you may be eligible for hardship relief. ACORN also has a Fresh Start program for borrowers who have lost their homes through foreclosure to HFC. Project Last, a program offered by the Children's Bureau, offers specialized Grief and Trauma Group and Individual Counseling to school aged children affected by trauma, loss, or disaster.
Project Last has been shown to be very effective in reducing symptoms in children who are in crisis due to trauma and community violence. The program is available to Orleans and Jefferson Parish children ages infant to 17 and their families who are survivors of traumatic events, witnesses to acts of extreme violence, or victims of violence. "Smile Again New Orleans" Mobile Dental Van

“Smile Again, New Orleans” is a HRSA Special Project of National Significance (SPNS) initiative to provide oral health care services to the HIV positive population of Greater New Orleans on a mobile dental van
. It is a collaborative effort with the LSU School of Dentistry, MCLNO, and the HIV Outpatient Program/HOP. Partners include the NO/AIDS Task Force and N`R Peace. The “Smile Again, New Orleans” clinical team consists of a dentist and a dental assistant that provides oral healthcare services in two chairs on the mobile van.
Diagnostic services, preventative services, and simple restorative procedures are provided, and referrals are available for complicated restorative. The mobile dental van will travel to sites identified as having a significant population of those that are HIV positive and in need of oral health care services. Job Corps is a no-cost education and vocational training program that helps young people ages 16 through 24 get a better job, make more money, and take control of their lives.
